Charter fishing is one of the most popular things to do in Hatteras. Looking to increase your odds of catching a fish? Hatteras fishing charters are an almost guaranteed way to catch fish around Hatteras Island. Experienced captains and mates offer inshore and offshore Hatteras fishing charters for all levels of experience. Depending on the season, they can put you on a marlin or tuna in the Gulf Stream, a red drum near Hatteras Inlet or a flounder in the Pamlico Sound. Most offshore Hatteras fishing charters leave from the marina docks in Hatteras village. This is the closest village to Hatteras Inlet, which leads directly to the Gulf Stream. Inshore charters are available in other villages as well. If you want to book Hatteras fishing charters, look to the marinas and tackle shops, who can help line those up. Also be sure to check the Hatteras fishing reports for the latest on what’s biting when and where and in what conditions.

It's all about making fishing memories at this legendary Outer Banks marina. A fleet of 48 boats offers a variety of fishing excursions at Oregon Inlet Fishing Center year round (weather permitting). Nearshore, inshore vessels offer half-day or full-day trips, while the headboat offers a choice of morning or afternoon inlet/sound fishing. Offshore vessels travel to the Gulf Stream, where anglers enjoy a full day on the water. Make-up charters are available if you don't have a full party. Anglers go for a variety of species, depending on the season, including billfish, tuna, mahi mahi, wahoo, Spanish mackerel, flounder, drum, bluefish, cobia and more. Anglers aboard charters do not need to purchase fishing licenses, and all tackle and bait are provided. The newest boat at Oregon Inlet Fishing Center is The Safari, a dolphin watching inlet/sound tour offering cruises daily! Even if you're not fishing or going out on the water, watching the boats come in with their catches is fine entertainment. Come to the docks between 3 and 5 p.m. and you'll see the day's catches being unloaded. Be sure to check out the world-record blue marlin replica mount (caught in 1974) displayed in an outdoor case, and take a photo of your group in front of a record-setting 805-pound bluefin tuna replica mount caught in 2011.
You can fuel up your boat here and also purchase food and drinks for your trip at the recently renovated and freshly updated on-site marina store, which carries a wide selection of fishing and boating gear, hardware, sunglasses, apparel and footwear, souvenirs and camping supplies. Check out their online store too. An air pump for inflating your tires, a public boat ramp (courtesy of National Park Service), clean restrooms and ample parking are also available. The boat ramp offers five launching lanes, courtesy docks and about 75 parking spaces for vehicles with trailers. You'll find it 8 miles south of Whalebone Junction in Nags Head.

Charter fishing on the Outer Banks is one of the most popular activities. Thousands of visitors and locals take advantage of the excellent fishing these waters offer, so not surprisingly there are many businesses that can connect you with the sort of charter you're interested in. Without a doubt, the offshore charter boats that go after the Gulf Stream big game of tuna, wahoo, mahi and more are king! You leave early in the morning, and if Neptune is with you, you come back in the afternoon with a bounty of tasty fish. These charters often book out months in advance, so plan ahead. Most of the time, a predetermined group of up to six anglers book a boat, but it is possible to be part of a make-up charter where you'll be paired with others who are booking individually. If offshore boats are king, then the headboats are definitely queen. These charters stay inshore in the sound or near-shore in the ocean, charge by the head (person) and can take 40 or so out for fish such as drum, flounder, blues, spot, striped bass and croaker. There's a mate on board if you need help baiting that hook. These trips are great choices for kids or those of you who might be susceptible to seasickness since they're half-days and within sight of land. You'll also find charter companies here that will take you fishing in the nearby rivers and lakes.
