Avon might not have as many Hatteras hotels as some of the other island towns, but it does sport a long-time popular beach motel, a campground and a villa complex. The villas rank up there with any Outer Banks hotel, but more to the point, they're seven little spots of niceness (with individual villa names such as Sun, Earth and Water) situated in a wellness and adventure village. Avon is known for its watersports more than for its Hatteras Island hotels, but visitors who want or need to stay right in this town can find accommodations to suit. The campground here is a great option because it offers many of the amenities — cable TV, laundry facilities, picnic areas — that lots of Hatteras hotels offer but you're out under those twinkling Cape Hatteras stars.
