Kiteboarding is becoming a legendary thing to do in Hatteras. Beginner and expert kiteboarders come from all over the world to learn or enjoy the sport within the Hatteras kiteboarding community. Even professional kiteboarders love Hatteras, and many of them compete in the Wind Voyager Triple S Invitational held in Waves every June. The wide, shallow, warm Pamlico Sound is a world-renowned place to learn the sport with one of the local kiteboarding schools. Skilled kiteboarders enjoy the sport on the sound as well as in the Atlantic Ocean. The heart of Hatteras kiteboarding is in the Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo area and in Avon.
