In a stunningly beautiful robin’s-egg blue building on N.C. 12 just before the ferry docks, you’ll find SeaWorthy Gallery. Painter and owner Carole Nunnally showcases fine, hand-crafted local and regional art in a variety of mediums, including painting, ceramics, jewelry, sculpture, wood carvings and much more. Rather than the expected grouping by artistic mediums, she divides the gallery into themes – shorebirds, marine life, boats and lighthouses, whimsical, jewelry-pottery and people-places-things. It adds up to a delightful shopping experience. You can take a peek at the artwork online too. The gallery has the largest variety of North Carolina-made pottery on Hatteras Island. The jewelry and hand-painted sand dollar ornaments are some of the favorite items here. As always, you can expect the unexpected at this charming gallery.
