Jay Crawford, owner and head coach at Outer Banks Kiting, is a longtime Hatteras local. He spends his days on the water, kiting, foilboarding, standup paddleboarding, sailing or surfing every day he can. Jay knows the winds and waters of Hatteras well, and he’s been a coach for decades, so he really knows how to encourage and challenge students. At Outer Banks Kiting students of all skill levels can learn, improve or master a sport through the various classes offered. Emphasis is on safety, while lessons are tailored to each individual’s learning style, skill and comfort level. Sponsored by Naish International, Jimmy Lewis and Carolina Skiff, Jay and his instructors provide the newest and most technologically advanced equipment available, but you’re also welcome to bring your own, which Jay will check out for you before you hit the water. All lessons go out aboard a Kite Custom 21' Carolina Skiff to the best shallow water and windy locations. Everything you need is on board. A Sea Doo is also available for a chase craft with larger groups. Lessons last 3 to 3.5 hours, and camps usually go for about 4 to 5 hours a day. In addition to kiting, OBK also offers wakeboarding (a great way to dial in your board skills), foilboarding and sunset sailing cruises.
