The first kiteboarding school on the Outer Banks, Kite Hatteras teaches kitesurfing off a custom 27’ boat. Captain Ty Luckett separates your lesson into two parts: board skills and kite skills. To focus on board skills, The Pole comes into play, pulling the rider out of the water at a 45-degree angle just like a kite will. Instead of being pulled by a Jet ski or tow rope, the adjustable pole is set to the proper angle for each individual, making it as close as possible to riding a kite. This allows the rider to get comfortable with edging and foot pressure. Captain Ty uses a quiet outboard motor and the rider is close to the boat, so he can instruct you while riding. To learn kite skills, you’ll use the Kite Rite tower, learning how to ride toe side and heel side before you even take a kite out. You can learn basic board skills, back rolls, railys or just test out your new board. Even an advanced rider can use this to pick up new tricks. This comfortable teaching program will get you up and riding quickly, and lessons are offered daily regardless of wind. Captain Ty also offers two-day and three-day kite camps, sunset cruises, offshore fishing, half-day or full-day kite charters for intermediate and advanced riders, and wakeboarding and tubing rides.
