The Dare County-run Fessenden Center has a fitness center, indoor and outdoor basketball courts, a playground, a skate park, tennis courts and pickleball courts. Tennis courts are available on a first-come, first-served basis during daylight hours. The center has four hard pickleball courts, two indoors and two outdoors, with permanent lines and portable nets. It's free to play pickleball on a first-come, first-served basis. The Fessenden Center's concrete skate park is a gem for local skaters; it's open from sun up to sundown, and protective gear is required. The center offers fitness classes five days a week, which are free for Dare County residents and property owners 55 and older and are otherwise fee based. You can find Fessenden’s fitness class schedule on the Dare County website under the Hatteras section. The center offers programs and classes for all ages, from children to older adults. For children there are sports, summer camps and special events. Adults can choose from trips, sports and fitness. Visitors are welcome to use all outdoor amenities; all indoor activities and programming are limited to residents and property owners.
