During the last two centuries an astonishing number of ships have wrecked off the shores of Hatteras Island due to the confluence of treacherous shoals, clashing currents, world wars and brutal storms. If you’re a licensed SCUBA diver with open ocean experience and want to get up close and personal with these shipwrecks, check out Dive Hatteras. This wreck diving venture typically takes out one charter a day for two separate dives, and where they dive is based entirely on what shipwrecks the divers want to explore. You’ll also see a tremendous array of sea life while you’re underwater, including dolphins, sharks, giant manta rays, sea turtles and other tropical species. There’s also a great opportunity for underwater photography and spearfishing while you’re diving the shipwrecks.
